DALLAS – FORT WORTH — Shoppa?s Material Handing, a certified Texas Rail Road Commission Alternative Fuels Distributor, announced today the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality forklift grant initiative has been refunded with a $6 million dollar grant.

The purpose of the program is to provide an incentive to businesses to replace their older internal combustion forklifts with ultra-low emissions equipment fueled by natural gas or propane. {{more}}

The Texas Emissions Reduction Plan (TERP) will fund the program through the Texas Commission on

Environmental Quality. The Texas Rail Road Commission, with a long history in working with the oil and?gas industry, is once again responsible for coordinating the program and approving the grant awards.

The program, which has been in place since 2005, is expected to continue to produce significant air quality?benefits. To date it has helped Texas businesses as well as school districts reduce smog-forming

nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions by nearly 5,000 tons.
?

There are 39 counties in Texas eligible for the program. In the Dallas – Fort Worth area these include Tarrant, Wise, Denton, Collin, Parker, Dallas, Hood, Johnson, Ellis, Kaufman and Rockwall. Northeast Texas counties include Harrison, Upshur, Smith and Rusk.?The Texas Rail Road Commission has stated that the forklift grant amount averages $9,500.

As part of the program, the retired units will have to be properly dismantled and sent to the scrap yard by the authorized distributor. ?In addition to helping the environment with less emissions, this program will also help businesses reduce the cost of their operations with less expensive alternatives to gas and diesel by converting to liquid propane (LP) and natural gas. It will also allow the companies to take advantage of another program offering a 50-cent-per-gallon federal tax credit for propane or natural gas purchases.?
