Collectively this class earned over $675,000 in scholarships
for their first year alone. But this class has also seen a lot of new things and has known a lot of success just in the final two years of high
school.
lots of first for this class …
Some of the first that this class was a part of over the
last two years:
- a top five finish in the state 4A marching competition for
the Wildcat Marching Band;
- the start of a new AV program with the production of daily
newcasts and the first entry into a state video contest that finished as one of the top three videos in Texas Class 4A;
- the start of the first outdoor education program that produces
top state teams in archery and bass fishing in its first year;
- a top 4 finish in the first ever state cheerleading
competition and a #15 finish in national cheerleading competition;
- the first perfect scores earned by a KHS Choir in UIL contest;
- first ever undefeated Wildcat football season and repeated
two years in row with a combined overall record of 24-2 and 10 straight
district wins;
- first ever soccer state title, this won by the KHS LadyKats;
- first ever back to back state titles by any KHS team in UIL athletics
events, again won by the LadyKats soccer team (Note: in non-UIL competition, the
KHS men?s power lifting teams won back
to back state titles in 2007 & 2008).
17 district and 9 area titles …
This graduating class also saw the restart of the Kennedale
Jazz band that placed 4 in the All-Region Band this year; the KHS Band
program earned its 9th and 10th Sweepstakes award; the
KHS Theatre Program advance in one-act competition for the first time in 8
years; the advancement of 19 choir members and 36 band members to state; the winning of 17 district and 9 area athletic titles to
go along with the two state championships; the high school computer science team continuing to challenge the best teams in the area in head to head meets after
finishing second in the state last year; the continued expansion of the CTE program with one of the first progams, health science, successfully placing of a number of students in hospital settings with some earning certification; and, the somewhat controversial change from individual textbooks to laptops and no lockers.
top four finish in Lone Star Cup 4 years in a row …
Throughout all four years for these seniors, Kennedale
remained one of the top four 4A high schools in Texas in the Lone Star Cup competition (a competition that includes results of state academic, band and athletic
contests). This year Kennedale is
set to finish in 3th place after a 4th place finish last
year, a 3rd place two years ago and a 2nd place finish in
2013.
