KHS Freshmen get a primer in interactions with law enforcement

Last September, schools across Texas were required to implement a section of a new Texas law (SB 30) that involved instruction on interaction with law enforcement. {{more: continue …}}

Referred to as the Community Safety Education Act, Texas Senate Bill 30, requires school districts, charter schools for students 9 through 12 to be educated on how to conduct themselves when stopped by the police.

At the same time, all Texas Peace Officers will be receiving additional training on interactions with the driving public. Mandated topics for both residents and officers include the role of law enforcement, proper behavior for civilians and peace officer during a traffic stop, individual rights, requirements to show proof of identification and much more.

Thanks to Kennedale Police Officer Starling, KISD/KPD School Resource Officer, 9th grade students at Kennedale High students were provided with the required training earlier this semester. The students watched the film and then were given a chance to ask questions.

As required by law, each future freshmen class will be receiving similar training.
