Powell runs the 60, 100 and 200 meter dashes for Kennedale (Texas) High, located minutes away from Arlington, Texas. In 2013, she ran the third legs on the 4×100 and 4×200 meter relay teams that finished first and second, respectively, at the Texas 3A state championship meet in Austin, Texas. She was the 200-meter champion at the Texas District 6, Class 3A meet in Mineral Wells, Texas. Her best time of 7.86 in the 60-meter dash ranks her fourth among 2014 high school seniors in Texas.

“De’Andrea is our third signee from the Metroplex (Dallas-Fort Worth) and we are really excited about her range in the sprints for our program,” the San Jose State head coach states. “She has run against the best in Texas and was a part of a state championship 4 x 100 meter relay. I am confident she has a big upside for us at San Jose State.”
