KHS Swimmer advances to State featured by Ch 8 Dale Hansen

Blake Bunnell, a KHS senior, takes his fourth and final trip to Austin this week to compete in the UIL State Swim Meet. {{more}}
 
Blake, a 3-year letterman for Kennedale, swims for the high school, but, since Kennedale does not have program or facilities, Bunnell swims and trains in Mansfield. He competes in the 200 free and the 500 free with schools in Class 5A. There is no division for Class 4A which is the level that Kennedale competes in other sports.
 
In January, he placed first in both events at the district meet and was designated the Male Swimmer of the District meet for the second year.
 
At the Region 2-5A meet early this month, Blake earned this 4th trip to Austin when he swept both the 200 and 500 free races. He was also selected as the Male Athlete of the Meet.
 
For the state meet, which begins today, Blake is seeded second in the 500.
 
Bunnell, a Commended National Merit Scholar for 2015, was featured as the Scholar Athlete of the Week on Channel 8 by Dale Hansen earlier this month. He is on Kennedale High School?s computer science team and has gone with the CS team to the state UIL academic meet the last two years.
 
He plans to attend college for degree in engineering. Currently, Blake is looking at Purdue, Georgia Tech and MIT and hopes to continue his competitive swimming at the college level.
