KHS percussionist tabbed outstanding

Elvon Bowman, a senior at KHS Class of 2019, has been named as an Outstanding Performer in the State of Texas because of his performance at the UIL State Solo-Ensemble Multiple Percussion Solo Contest. {{more: continue …}}

According to Dr. Bradley Kent, State Director of Music, approximately 100,000 students participated from across the state in the annual UIL music contests with 25,000 advancing in the contest. Of that number, only 2%-3% of the solo performances earn this honor.

Dr. Kent in his notification letter to Bowman said, ?Awards of this nature do not come easily and reflect the efforts of many individuals. Your parents, school and teachers are to be commended for their contribution to you success.?

Kent went on to say, ?At the same time remember that you alone through your own talent, dedication and hard work made this accomplishment a reality.?

KISD Director of Bands, Erol Oktay, who submitted the information to the Kennedale News about the award to Bowman, called it it both “a great honor and a great accomplishment.”
