KHS student makes All-State Jazz Band

Dylan Mowrer, a sophomore at Kennedale, has been selected to the ATSSB All State Jazz Ensemble. Dylan is the first student from Kennedale high school to ever make the All State Jazz Band. {{more: continue …}}

Dylan earned the honor as just one of 20 students from across Texas who are part of the Association of Small School Band (ATSSB). Not only that, he was just one of three sophomores that earned the honor – ten were seniors and seven were juniors. He was selected as 3rd Chair Tenor Trombone.

In this area, Alvarado junior Dylan Scott (Drums), Nolan High School sophomore Luke Duane-Tessier (Trumpet), Argyle senior Cole McCue (Tenor Trombone) were also selected.

Mowrer made the cut at regional auditions and then made the state band after his audition tape was one of twenty chosen.

The process ?

TMEA (Texas Music Educators Association) sponsors the Texas All-State audition process to promote students’ dedication to their musical knowledge and skill. This includes ATSSB all-state selections.?
?
Beginning each fall, over 70,000 high school students across the state audition in their TMEA Region. Individual musicians perform selected music for a panel of judges who rank each instrument or voice part. A select group of musicians advances to compete against musicians from other Regions in their TMEA Area. The highest-ranking musicians judged at the TMEA Area competitions qualify to perform in one of 15 Texas All-State Bands, Orchestras, and Choirs.

These All-State ensembles rehearse for three days, directed by nationally recognized conductors, and perform on the closing day of the annual TMEA Clinic/Convention.

A ?home grown? product, Mowrer has been in the KISD band program since he was in the 6th grade at James Arthur Intermediate and in the 7th and 8th grade bands at Kennedale Junior High School.?
