Carruthers was elected in May after running unopposed in the elections. She will serve a three year term on the KISD Board. This is her first time to serve and she issued the following statement to the Kennedale News.

?I am very excited to be on the Kennedale School Board. I love being a part of this town and want to help any way I can.

I have served in many different ways in Kennedale. I started as a teacher at Delaney Elementary. I worked there for 18 years and had 2 previous years of teaching experience from Abilene ISD. My family lives in Kennedale and I have two children who attend KISD. One is at the high school and the other is at Arthur Intermediate.

When I resigned from teaching, I went to work in our family businesses, the Pearson Companies. We have an air conditioning business (pearsonair.com), and also a non-profit foundation, The Gregg Pearson Foundation (greggpearson.org) honoring my brother who passed away from cancer. We help other families dealing with cancer and other acute illnesses.

I am very passionate about kids and their education and hope to continue the great traditions already established in KISD.

I look forward to being a part of this board to help our children be prepared and successful in the future.”

Adams who had served as Vice President of the KISD board, announced at the June board meeting that she would be stepping down because her and her family were in the process of moving to another city. Adams has one year left on her current term.

In her announcement at the Board meeting, Adams said in part

?As of Monday I will be resigning ?. As many of you know we have sold our home and are downsizing .. Right now we will be in Mansfield leasing a home until we [probably] go to Waxahachie and build in the next year or so. I have enjoyed tremendously these last 12 years. We put our heart and soul into this. It is a happy time but it is a sad time for me.

I can?t thank everyone so much for everything that you have done for us. And this board, you are my friends, you?re my family and it is going to be hard. It is a new chapter in our [family] life and we are excited about it.?

Joe Taylor, Board President, said in a later conversation with the Kennedale News, that he could not speak for the Board on when or how the vacancy will be filled. He did say that his preference, since there will be less than a year left on Adam?s term, that the Board appoint someone to fill that position. He did say that the Board also has the option of calling a special election.

The next regular board meeting is scheduled for July 30th at 7 p.m. at the KISD Media Center.
