At this point in the season, the Kennedale Wildcats of 2015 have an identical record with the Kennedale Wildcats of 2014. Both teams will have entered an area playoff game against Athens at the same point in the season with matching 11-0, 5-0 records and a #4 state ranking. {{more}}They both featured a star running back in a powerhouse running offense that has dominated opponents from the very first game. Are they the same team?
a look at stats ?
The two teams do match well but with some slight differences. Offensively the 2015 team wins the battle but on defense the ball goes to the 2014 team but only by a small margin.
Both teams go down as offensive dynamos. The total yards, for the ?14 Cats through 11 games was 4,940 or 449 yards per game and 77 touchdowns. In 2015, the total offensive yards, through 11 games, has been 5,545 or 504 per game and 84 touchdowns. Neither team use the pass much with last year?s group getting 364 yards by passing and 4 TDs while the current Cats have gained just 168 yards by air and 2 touchdowns.
Looking at all-purpose yards (all yards gain by rushing, passing, kick-off returns, punt returns, interception return yards) this year?s Cats were more successful gaining 6,417 yard (583.4 per game ave) while last year the total was 5,616 (510.5 per game ave).
Defensively the story is a little different giving the edge to ?14. Both team arrived at the same 11-0 mark but the 2014 team did it by shutting out 3 opponents, allowing only 128 points (11.3 per game ) and a total of 2,256 yards (205.1 ave per game). The 2015 Cats have been just as successful in the win/loss column but were slightly more generous recording one shutout, allowing 158 points (14.4 per game ave) and a total of 2,268 yards (206.2 per game ave).
Last year the Cats sacked the opponents 24 times recorded 3 interceptions and recovered 12 fumbles with 3 for touchdowns and blocked 1 punt and 2 field goal attempts. This year the defense has not be as successful in the sack (8) and recorded only one blocked punt but as been more opportunistic by getting 8 interceptions, returning 2 for TDs, and scoring 2 TDs off of 11 fumble recoveries.
both with stud running back ?
The backfield shows a good deal of similarity but with the edge going to 2015. Both teams had their superstar ball carriers and both had good support from the fullback and quarterback position.
Last year, it was Juwan Washington, who after 11 games had 2,111 yards, averaging 9.8 per attempt and 40 touchdowns. Adding to the game totals were Ronald Hayes with 1,103, averaging 7.9 per carry and 14 touchdowns and quarterback Jake Michener with 580 yards, averaging 9.0 yards per carry and 9 touchdowns.
Kennedale once again has it superstar runner this year in Quardraiz Wadley gaining 2,281 yard and averaging 11.9 yards per carry and scoring 42 touchdowns. Complimenting Wadley has been fullback Dailyn Wells with 1,229 yards, averaging 12.9 yards per carry and 17 touchdowns and, quarterback, Kasier McGlothen, with 607 yards, averaging 7.5 yards per carry and scoring 5 touchdowns.
In the end this is a meaningless exercise as no two teams can be the same due to graduations, move ups from sub varsity and move-ins/outs and this applies to opponents as well, as Coach Richard Barrett will tell you. But for those who love stats and to discuss football endlessly, it can be a source of heated arguements.
And, of course, the end game has yet to be played.
