Kennedale High School Soccer teams start district play

Last week the Star Telegram listed top area teams and players to watch this season. The team list included the Kennedale LadyKats, citing that the Kats have averaged over 20 wins through their first 6 seasons. Top players from Kennedale to watch were LadyKats Libby Beck and Nevaeh Johnson and Wildcat Will Johnson.

In early rankings, the Texas Association of Soccer Coach?s Organization (TASCO) had the Kennedale Wildcats at #8 in 4A Region 1. The top 10 teams were #1 San Elizario, #2 Bridgeport, #3 FW Diamond Hill-Jarvis, #4 Argyle, #5 Stephenville, #6 River Oaks Castleberry, #7 Dumas, #8 Kennedale, #9 FW Benbrook and #10 Mineral Wells.

TASCO had the Kennedale LadyKats at #3 behind #1 Stephenville, #2 Mineral Wells. Following Kennedale was #4 Brownwood, #5 FW Diamond Hill, #6 Argyle, #7 Bridgeport, #8 FW Benbrook, #9 San Angelo Lakeview and #10 Canyon.

The Kennedale Wildcats are currently 7-10-1.

The Wildcats wins have come against Athens 2-0, Mineral Wells 2-1, North Lamar 8-0, Chapel Hill 6-0, Paris 4-0, Brownwood 7-0 and one tie with Burkburnett 0-0. Losses include OD Wyatt 4-2, Paris 0-0, Mansfield 2-0, North Dallas 1-0, Granbury 2-1 and Castleberry 4-3.

Kennedale plays in District 8-4A along with Western Hills 5-4-0, 0-1), Diamond Hill-Jarvis (8-4-3, 1-0), Castleberry (5-6-1, 1-0), Dunbar (2-3-0, 0-0), Lake Worth (3-7-0, 0-1) and Benbrook (2-4-0, 1-0).

On Tuesday evening, the Wildcats lost to the Castleberry Lions by a score of 4-3 with the both teams scoring early for a 3-3 tie at the halfway mark. It was Castleberry that made the only score in the second half of play for the win.

The LadyKats are currently 4-7. Their wins include Athens 3-0, Kaufman 3-0, Haltom 2-0 and Chisholm Trail 3-0.

The Kats lost their first district match on Tuesday at home against Castleberry. After tying 1-1 in regulation play the Kat lost in shootout by 4-2. Winning first games in district were Benbrook (5-3-3, 1-0), Castleberry (7-2, 1-0) and Diamond Hill-Jarvis (7-0-1). Losing first district games were Kennedale (4-7, 1-0) vs Castleberry, Lake Worth (6-6-0, 0-1) vs Diamond Hill-Jarvis and Western Hills (3-6-1, 0-1). Dunbar was idle.

Kennedale will play at Western Hills on Friday with game time set for 6 p.m. for the Wildcats and 7:30 p.m. for the LadyKats.
