The Kennedale Soccer program enjoyed a double header sweep of the Wylie soccer program last Tuesday evening with shutouts at Bulldog Stadium in Abilene. It was a special for both the girls and the boys programs. {{more:Read more …}}
 
For the girls it was a match-up of the top programs in the state as both were consensus #1 and # 2 in the MaxPreps and the Texas Girls Coaches Association rankings. For the boys program it was a solid win going into district play next week as both teams open against Lake Worth on Tuesday.

The 2017 version of the LadyKats may miss the explosive scoring power of SMU freshman Allie Thornton but that has not stopped the winning thanks to a smothering defense and timely kicks.
 
For the 2017 Wildcats, the seniors who have stuck with the program through thick and thin, are proud on the win and they think there will be more like it in district play.

It was a game that you would expect of two of the best starting with a scoreless first half of play. But that didn?t too long when four minutes into the second half, LadyKat Alondra Olmos? (Sr) scored on an assist by Eryka McIntyre (So). That kick would be the game winner..
 
LadyKat goalieSara Isela Calzade (Sr) recorded her 5th shutout as she successfully defended against 5 shots on goal by Wylie. For the game Kennedale had 8 shots on goal with 2 by Alondra Olmos (Sr), 2 by Libby Beck (Fr), 1 by Megan Jakubisin (Jr), 2 Eryka McIntyre (So) and 1 by Hannah Biles (Fr).
 
This was the first shutout recorded against the Wylie team this year.
 
In MaxPreps rankings, Kennedale is #1 in Class 4A, #18 in the state in all classifications and #144 in the nation.
 
Wildcats (3-5-1) 2 ? Bulldogs (4-5) 1
 
The Kennedale Wildcats kept the shutout going when they blanked Wylie boys 2-0. Kennedale scored first just a minute into the game
 
Jared Birr (Sr) found the goal twice for Kennedale. One early in the game and the second on a penalty kick 10 minutes into the second half.
 

Break for the weekend …

 
Both the LadyKats and the Wildcats will have a break with no game scheduled for Friday night. They will return to action Tuesday night, February 7, when they travel to Lake Worth to play. The LadyKats will play at 6 p.m. and the Wildcats varsity will follow at 7:30 p.m.
