Kennedale Wildcat Band Qualifies for Fourth Consecutive UIL State Marching Band Championships

The Wildcat Band competed against 27 other UIL First Division 3A bands at the UIL Area D Marching Band Contest on Saturday, October 28th in Waxahachie, TX. The Wildcat Band ranked 1st of all bands in Preliminaries and 2nd in Finals to qualify for the UIL State Marching Band Championships to be held at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Monday, November 5th. At the state championships, the top 3A bands in the state will compete for the ?State Title?.

The Wildcat Band has had a successful contest season prior to this week. At the UIL Region 7 Marching Contest in Glen Rose, the band received ?Straight Ones? from the judges to advance to Area. On Saturday October 13th, the Wildcat Band Placed 2nd overall and 1st in class 3A at the first annual Princeton Marching Festival. There the band won the captions for best guard, drumline, music, and {{more}} general effect. The band started off their competition season with a finals performance at Midlothian Marching festival where they placed 5th in finals. The band has been slowly working their way up the ladder and has been waiting to peak this week at the state championships. They will perform at ?State? in the morning on Monday November 5th in preliminary competition with the hope to advance to the finals that night.

The Wildcat Band?s 2012 show is an original composition by composer Key Poulan entitled, Medusa. Drum Majors for the band are Steven Reitano and Sarah Ford. Drumline Captain is Garrett Shimek, and the Color Guard Captain is Amanda Sikes. The Kennedale band directors are Erol Oktay, DiMitri Higginbotham, Melissa Romano, and Eleanor Babcock. The color guard instructor is Lacey McGowan.
