The #7 AP ranked Kennedale Wildcats moved to 8-1, 4-0 with one regular season game left to play tonight at 7:30 pm against Lake Worth at Wildcat Stadium. It is senior night. Castleberry fell to 1-8, 1-3 for the season and faces Mineral Wells tonight.

The Wildcats rolled up 448 yards of offense compared to 190 for Castleberry. The Cats rushed 28 times for 300 yards at 10.71 yards per clip and passed for 148 yards going 7/7.

The Lions rushed for 109 yards at a 5.74 yard average and went 12-31-3 in passing for 81 yards. Kennedale had 7 penalties for a loss of 74 yards and Castleberry had 6 penalties for a loss of 40 yards.

Kennedale spread their offense over six different runners and four receivers. Seven different Wildcats scored for the Cats. QB Evan Jowers came up with the biggest numbers for night going 7 for 7 in passing for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns and rushed 3 times for 50 yards and another touchdown.

  • Passing – QB Evan Jowers (Jr) went 7/7 in passing for 157 yards and 3 touchdowns. Jalen Smith Jr) caught three of the passes for 97 yards and 2 touchdowns with his longest for 63 yards. DJ Kirven (Jr) had 1 reception for 48 yards and a touchdown. David Roper (Sr) had 2 receptions and Jaden Knowles (Sr) had one.

  • Rushing David Roper (Sr) lead all Wildcats with 74 yards and a TD followed by Kameron Russell (Jr) 65 yards, Evan Jowers (Jr) 50 and 1 TD, Jaden Knowles (Sr) 46 and 1 TD, DJ Kriven (Jr) 41 yards and 2 TDs; and, Micah Conner (So) 28 yards and 1 TD.
  • Scoring summary: Jaden Knowles 21 yd run, DJ Kiven 8 yard run, Jalen Smith 63 yard reception, David Roper 55 yard run, DJ Kirven 10 yard run, Jalen Smith 12 yard reception, Evan Jowers 11 run, DJ Kirven 48 yard reception and Micah Conner 5 yard run.
  • KickingKevin Tiero (Sr) was 9/9 in extra-point kicks and had 11 kickoffs averaging 57.3 yards with 1 touchback.
Defensively, the Cats out tackled the Lions 60 to 29, intercepted the ball three times, dropped the Lions for a loss 10 times, recovered on fumble and block a kick twice.

  • Devan Mason (Sr) with 3 interceptions along with 3 tackles; Mayfield Hayes (Sr) with 3 tackles for loss, 1 QBD and 1 blocked kick; Jamal Marshall (So) 3 tackles, 2 for loss, 1 sack and 1 QBD; Avion Jenkins (Sr) 8 tackles; Larry Brooks (Sr) 7 tackles, 1 for loss, 1 fumble recovery; Jalen Myers (Jr) 6 tackles with 2 for loss, 1 sack and 1 QBD; Ector Rivera (Sr) 5 tackles, 1 blocked kick and 1 QBD.
  • MVP – Ricardo Pena (Sr) 3 tackles with 2 for loss and for his overall play was selected Defensive MVP.
 
The lowdown on Lake Worth ?
 
Lake Worth (2-7, 2-2) is in the midst of a drought. The Bullfrogs are currently tied for 3 place in District 5/4A along with Mineral Wells and should still qualify for the playoffs even with a loss tonight against the district leader Kennedale. The Frogs haven?t posted a winning record since 2013 when they went 6-5 and finished in 3rd place behind Kennedale and Springtown. However, Lake Worth hasn?t missed a playoff since 2011.
 
This season Lake Worth had allowed 331 points while scoring 176 (19.6 pgm av) while the Wildcats have scored 492 points (47.9 pgm av) and allowed just 116.
 

Lake Worth averages 185.7 rushing yards and 42.8 passing per game. Kennedale averages 338.4 on the ground and 67.6 by air.
