While the coaches all expressed confidence, there was slight hesitation in their voices and glint of worry in their eyes. There were still a lot of questions to be answered, not the least was how would a rebuilt offensive line do along with a defense that had to stop the air game of Decatur??
?
Those concerns were answered quickly Friday night during the first quarter of play much to the relief of the Kennedale coaching staff and to the dismay of the Decatur faithful. By the end of the first quarter it was 21-0 in favor of the Wildcats. Kennedale would never have to punt in this game while they rolled up 580 total yards with 103 of that through the air at 17.2 per throw and 477 yards rushing at 11.4 yards per carry. Check off questions about the offense.

And the defense more than did their part. Decatur managed just one score, 179 total yards (77 yards rushing at 5.5 yards per carry and 75 yards receiving) while the Wildcat defense stole 6 passes and kept the Eagles bottled up in their territory. On Kennedale’s first three possessions, the offense had only to go 44 yards, 38 yards and 33 yards. Each possession resulted in touchdowns.
?
Kennedale did have a few hiccups along the way turning over the ball deep in Decatur territory on a 4th and 2 at the Decatur 6, throwing one interception and losing one fumble. None had any effect on the game as the Wildcat defense stepped up to stop any threat.

Kennedale had several stars on both side of the ball ?

  • Decatur did try to stop DJ Kirven (Sr) who still managed 84 yards and 2 touchdowns but that left junior running back Micah Conner open to prove that Kennedale has multiple options. Conner had 14 carrries for 294 yards and 3 touchdowns.?
  • Marlete Joyner (So) had one touchdown on 5 carries had 98 yards.
  • Jaden Smith had 51 yards in receptions for 1 touchdowns.?
  • JD Coffey (So) had 3 interceptions and returned on punt for 44 yards
  • Carrington Roblow (Sr) had 2 receptions for 1 touchdown and 52 yards.?
  • Keirahyin Brown (So) snatched 2 interceptions.?
  • Kyron Easterling (So) had one interception
  • Craig Shue (Sr) took over the kick duties and hit 7 of 8 extra point kicks.
  • Jamal Marshall (Jr) recorded 6 tackles
  • Kameron Russell had one sack for 7 yards
