Kennedale swimmer advances to region with dual wins

Alexis Wheeler, KHS junior, earlier this month competed in the District 8-5A championships and came away with two gold medals, qualifying her for the Region II 5A Swimming and Diving meet.{{more: conintue …}}

Competing with 4A and 5A schools in the district meet, Alexis won first place in the 200yd freestyle and the 100yd butterfly.

In the 200 yard freestyle, she swam a 1:58.35 edging out Abigail Jameson (Jr) from Mansfield Legacy 1:58:36. Coming in third was Kayleen Potter (Fr) from Midlothian Heritage at 2:06.60.?

In the butterfly, Alexis won with a time of 1:02.97. Coming in second was Alyssa Steinfeldt (So) from Midlothian with 1:06.18. Third place went to Haley Kutch (Sr) from Mansfield Legacy with 1.10.15.

For UIL swimming and diving competition, there is not a separate division for Class 4A. Those swimmers from smaller school are group in with nearby 5A districts. District 8-5A is composed of 5A Arlington Sequin, 5A Mansfield Legacy, 5A Mansfield Timberview, 5A Midlothian, 4A Midlothian Heritage, 4A Kennedale and 4A Waxahachie Life.

Alexis is the only swimmer representing Kennedale.

The Region II meet will be on Saturday, Febuary 2, 2019 at the Mansfield ISD Natatorium.
