The Kennedale Wildcats Varsity (9-14, 4-4) defeated Venus (11-6, 4-3) Tuesday night. It was a pitcher?s game up to the 6th with no team able to score a run. {{more:[Read more]}}Kennedale broke the logjam with 4 runs in the top of the inning as they earned their 4th win in district play.
 
one run, one walk & 12 strikeouts …
 
Bryce Hackett (So) for Kennedale was the winning pitcher going seven inning allowing one run while throwing 12 strikeouts with one walk. He faced 25 batters throwing 98 pitches with 67 strikes.
 
Kennedale scored in the top of the 6th with 1 out. Cody Bossaller (Sr) began the big inning with a walk followed by single by Aaron Herrera (So). Bossaller then scored on a wild pitch. Jordan Pough (Sr) reached on a ground ball error and Ethan Wood (So) was hit by pitch loading the bases. Luke Michener (So) loosen up the bases when he reached on a ground ball fielder’s choice and Herrera and Pough both scored. The final score for the Cats came with a line drive single by Cole Carruthers (Jr) that scored pinch runner Darren Hull (Sr).
 
In the bottom of the 7th, Hackett got the final three outs with a ground out followed by 2 strike outs.
 
Cats are 2 & 1 in last three games …
 
Last week the Cats went 1-1 when they defeated Diamond Hill 11-0 on 9 hits with 2 errors and lost to Godley 5-1. In the Diamond Hill (1-18, 0-7) game, Byrce Hackett pitched a shutout while striking out 7 with just two hits in 5 innings. Hackett and Aaron Herrera both went 2 for 3 with 2 RBIs. Cole Carruthers also went 2 for 3 with 1 RBI.
 
District leader Godley (16-2, 7-0) beat the Cats with 5 runs on 12 hits and 1 error while Kennedale had 1 run on 3 hits with no errors.
 
While Godley seems to have a lock on first with a 7-0 record, the next 3 positions are still in play with just a few games remaining. The top four teams earn playoff spots. Venus (11-6, 4-3) and Midlothian (7-13, 4-3) each have three losses while Kennedale has four. Alavardo (11-10-1, 2-5) is in the 5th spot and Diamond is in 6th.

Kennedale has split with Venus and has one loss against Midlothian. Midlothian and Kennedale end the season playing each other at Midlothian on April 26. Venus and Midlothian also must play district leader Godley one more time.
 
But, to stay in contention for a higher finish, the Cats must get by Alvarado this Friday night. Game time is 7:30 p.m. at Alvarado.
