UIL 4A State Playoffs Region 1&3

In the latest Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA), Snyder comes in at #5 in the Class 4A and Kennedale is ranked, for the first time this season, in a tie for 10th in Class 4A. The tie is a result of five teams who have made it as one of the final 16 teams in the state playoffs and were unranked.

These are the ?surprise teams? or the wildcards which always add spice to the playoffs. Kennedale, as a third seed out of District 7-4A, is one of those teams this year. But, the Lady Kats seem be peaking at just the right time.

How they got here ?

Snyder (27-10, 10-0) won the regional quarter finals against Pampa (16-6, 7-2) in two games 11-1 and 5-4 last week. Earlier Snyder defeated Dalhart (6-18, 2-6) in one game 11-0 in bi-district and Seminole (7-10, NA) in two games 13-10 & 13-8 in area play.

Snyder rolled through District 2-4A undefeated, beating out Big Springs (24-7, 8-2), Sweetwater (15-11-3, 5-5), Levelland (5-12, 3-6), Lamesa (NA) and Estacado (4-19, 0-10)

Kennedale won the quarterfinals over #7 Stephenville (25-11, 5-2) in two games 4-3 & 7-0; won the area round over Mineral Wells (15-13, 3-5) in two games 13-3 & 10-8; and, won bi-district against Springtown (11-16, 5-3) in two games 11-0 & 17-8

Kennedale has outscored their opponents by 42 points (65-38)

in six playoff games and out hit their opponents by 27 hits (65-38). Snyder has outscored their opponents by 29

points (52-23) in five games and out hit their opponents by 31 hits (64-31).

Kennedale and Snyder have had only one common opponent this year, 5A Joshua, with both losing by the same score of 5-0.

Last year Snyder and Kennedale met in the region finals with Snyder coming out on top in a 3 game showdown.

Go to pitchers …

Both teams have one go to pitcher. For the Kats it has been freshman {{t2:Megan Calhoun:

}} and

for the Lady Tigers it is senior Cholee James.

Since the playoffs began Cholee James has thrown in all 5

games (4 full games) for a total of 28.2 innings; throwing 423 times with 267 strikes

for a .631 average, allowing 5.1 hits per game, getting 5 strikeouts per and 2

walks per.

Megan Calhoun has pitch in 6 all six playoff games (4 full

games) for a total of 36.1 innings; throwing 313 strikes in 460 throws for a .680

average, allowing 4.7 hits per games, average 3.1 strike outs and averaging 1

walk per game.

Strong recent playoff histories ?

Snyder has now made the region playoff three straight years and made the final four in Austin the last two years. In 2015 Snyder finished 24-4, 8-0 defeating Kennedale in the region finals in 3 games winning game one (4-1), losing game two (8-5) but winning the final game (6-5). In Austin, Snyder lost a semi-final match-up against to Hargrove 2-0. In 2014 Snyder (36-5) lost out in the state semifinals to Van (31-6-1) by a score of 15-13. In 2013, the Lady Tigers made it to the region quarterfinals.

Kennedale has its own strong playoff history appearing now in the 3 of the last 4 region playoffs. Kennedale lost to Snyder in 2015 in the region finals. In 2014 the Lady Kats were ranked #2 but were surprised in the area playoffs by Lampasas and made an early exit. In 2013 Kennedale lost to the eventual state champions, Burkburnett, in the region semifinals and in 2012 Kennedale made it to the region finals before losing to West.
