Kennedale women?s track on the medal stand again

The Kennedale Lady Kat Track team has return home this weekend with a second place finish at the UIL State Track and Field Championships in Austin, along with a gold, two silver and one bronze. All won by just four Lady Kats. {{more: READ MORE …}}
 

This was a step up from last year when the Lady Kats finished in fourth place. The medal count for Saturday was as follows.

 
Gold ?
  • Alexis Brown, sophomore, started it off with a first place in the long jump when she finish in the gold with a 20-00.25 jump. This was her first year to compete in this event at any level. Virginia Kerley (Sr) from Talyor finished in 2nd with a jump of 19-00.50. Marlee Serrano (Sr) from Sinton finished 3rd with a jump 18-02.00. The state record is 21-03.25.

Silver x2 ?

 
The Lady Kat relay team repeated twice as silver medal finalist in the 4×100 meter and the 4×200. Running both were the Lady Kat team of Julia Mosely (Sr), Alexis Brown (So), Lucy Benson (Sr) and Mariah Wells (Sr).
  • In the 4×100, the Lady Kat team finished behind Dallas Carter who had a time of 45.96 which broke their own 4A state record set last year of 46.23. Kennedale earned 2nd with a run of 47.58. Waxahachie Life came in third with a finish of 47.63
  • In the finals of the 4×200 Kennedale came in just behind Texarkana Liberty-Eylua who had a time of 1:40.21. Kennedale?s time was 1.40.28. Madisonville earned third with a time of 1:41.82. The 4A record, held by Liberty, is 1:39.00 set in 2011. The overall state record is 1:34.51 set in 2003.

Bronze ?

  • Alexis Brown (So) earned a third place finish in the 100 meter dash. She was the youngest to finish in the top 10. Sha?Carri Richardson (Jr) from Dallas Carter was first with a 11.28 time setting a new 4A state record. Coming in 2nd was Virginia Kerley (Sr) of Taylor with a 11.62 finish. Brown in third ran a 11.63. The overall state record is 11.16 set in 2008.
Overall …
  • Dallas Carter put a lot of distance between themselves and the rest of the field, winning the 4A track championship with 72 points, followed by Kennedale with 48. Taylor took the bronze with 43. Finishing out the top 10 were #4 Texarkana Liberty-Eylau (41), #5 Sinton (25), #6 Godley (20), #7 Alvarado (18), #7 Sinton (18), #7 Lufkin Hudson (17) and #10 Giddings (16).

A little history ?

  • This is the fourth time in the last five years that the Lady Kats have finished in the top four at the state championships and in the last nine years they have finished in the top 10 seven times.
  • This is the fourth state appearance for senior Julia Mosley, who started in her freshman year, winning gold on the Lady Kat 4×200 in 2014. She added to her state medal count with a silver and

    bronze in 2016 and the the two silver this year. This doesn’t include a slew of district and region medals.

  • Alexis Brown as a sophomore continues to impress Earlier this

    spring, she was selected to TEAM NSAF (National Scholastic Athletics

    Foundation) for the 2017 Caribbean Scholastic Invitational May 26-28. She is

    just one of 28 student athletes selected from around the country; one of 4 from

    Texas; and, one of five sophomores on the team.
