Kirven was tackled on a run during the 2nd quarter that carried him off the field and on to the Kennedale sidelines. He briefly tried to get up but went back down. Kennedale trainers quickly attended to him as he was complaining of a sharp pain in his lower neck shoulder area. As the first half came to a close, the decision was made, as a precaution, to take him to hospital for observation.

Kennedale Head Coach Richard Barrett later told the Dallas SportsDay that it was nothing serious adding, “Thank goodness there was no severe injury.?

Early thoughts on the sideline that it was a “stinger? or a pinching/bruising of a nerve in the neck/shoulder area that would heal itself with rest.

Kirven, early Saturday morning, tweeted “Thank you to everyone that wished me well. I?m in a little pain but I?ll be alright. Much love to all y?all.”

It was not clear when the top rusher for the Wildcats will return to action. So far this season Kirven has 420 yards after running for 2,306 yards last year.

Kennedale on the wrong side of shutout ?

The bad news was that the game on Friday night turn out to be washout for Kennedale in more ways than one. The game itself was call with just over 6 minutes left in the fourth quarter as a torrent of rain was falling and lightening was recorded in the area. And, when the game was called, Kennedale was behind 30-0 and had lost two running backs to injuries during the game, as in addition to Kirven, Micah Conner had gone in the 1st half with a shoulder injury.

Kennedale (2-2) is working through what has been a rough pre-district season. Friday night’s? shut out was the first time since 2011 that the Cats have failed to score. That year Cats lost to Alvarado 55-0.? That was also the season that Alvarado finished as state ?runner ups. Kennedale when on to finish the season at 8-4.

Kennedale never was a serious threat to Springtown in this game. For the game, the Cats had just 211 total yards with 60 by passing (2-8) and 151 rushing. Springtown finished with 157 passing (6-9) and 299 rushing for a total of 457 yards.

For the game Kennedale top rusher was Marlete Joyner with 60 yards, DJ Kirven 43 yards and Micah Conner 40 yards. Spencer Roof had one catch for 50 yards and Carrington Roblow had another for 10 yard.

Cameron Rickett was the star for Springtown running for 162 yards scoring twice, taking one catch for another 52 yards and a touchdown and throwing one pass for 60 yards. QB Sawyer Drewry passed for 98 yards (5-8) and a TD while rushing for another for 77 yards and a TD.

Springtown moved to 4-0 and will make a claim to a top ten ranking this week. Up next for Wildcats are the Castleberry Lions (3-1). Game will be Friday, September 29 at home with game time at 7:30 p.m.
