The Kennedale Lady Kat softball team experienced the extremes last week when the won on Tuesday by a score of 17-7 over Benbrook and then lost under threatening skies on Friday evening 15-5 to Mineral Wells in Mineral Wells. {{more: continue …}}

Kennedale is 5-4 in district play and in 3rd place with 3 game remaining. Mineral Wells is in first at 9-0 and Springtown is in second at 8-1. Kennedale has games remaining with Castleberry, Diamond Hill and Lake Worth.

Tuesday, April 3 ? Benbrook (W) 17-7
  • This one started with the pop of Kennedale bats as the Kats put 9 runners across the plate to take a 9-1 lead after just one inning of play at home against the Benbrook Lady Bobcats.
  • Kennedale finished the game with 17 runs on 11 hits, scoring nine in the 1st, two in the 2nd, one in the 3rd and five in the 4th. The game was 10 run-ruled in the 5th after Benbrook could only manage one run in the top of the 5th to bring the score to 17-7.
  • Seven Kats got hits in the game. Earning multiple hits and/or RBI?s were Mikinzie Eubanks with a triple earning 3 RBIs and scoring twice. Hope Regalado who was 2-3 at the plate with 2 RBI?s, scoring 3 times and walking once. Allison Smith was 2-3 with 2 RBIs & a run; Jenna Webb went 2-4, 1 RBI & 2 runs. And, Megan Calhoun was 2-3 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
  • Also managing a hit in the game were Alyssa Bradberry along with a walk and 2 runs and Alyssa Phillips with 1 RBI, a walk & one run scored. Allie Hopper had one sacrifice.
  • Megan Calhoun earned the win going 3.2 innings on the mound facing 26 batters throwing 54 strikes in 96 pitches (.562), striking out 6, walking 6 while allowing 6 runs on 6 hits. In relief, Allie Hopper went 1.2 innings facing 7 batters, throwing 13 strikes in in 21 throws (.612), walking 1 while allowing 1 run on one hit.

Friday, April 6 ? Mineral Wells (L) 15-5?

  • In the space of three days, the Kennedale Lady Kats played in two games where there were 44 runs scored. But in this game, Kennedale was on the short end as district leader Mineral Wells ran past Kennedale `15-5.
  • It started out okay with Kennedale down just one run, 3-2, after the first inning but while the Lady Kats couldn?t score a run in the 2nd, 3rd and 4th innings, Mineral ran off 11.?
  • Kennedale did have a 3 run fifth but it was not enough to avoid the 10 run rule in the bottom of the 5th as Mineral Wells scored their 15th run to end the game early.?
  • Megan Calhoun took the loss for Kennedale going 3 innings, allowing 7 hits and 12 runs. Allie Hopper pitched 1.1 innings facing 9, throwing 20 strikes in 24 pitches striking out 2 while allowing 3 runs on 5 hits.
  • Mineral Wells did their damage with multiple base hits including 3 homeruns in the game ? a 2-run blast in the 1st, another 2-run HR in the 2nd and a 3-run stunner in the 3rd. They also added 3 doubles and 1 triple.
  • Alyssa Bradberry was able to provide at least one homer for Kennedale with a 2-run homerun in the first. She went 2-3 in the game with 2 RBIs & 1 run scored. Bradberry also had the only Kennedale double play in the game.
  • Megan Calhoun ended the game with 2 RBIs, a double, a walk & 1 run scored. Also getting a hit in the game was Mikinzie Eubanks. Three other Lady Kats got on base with walks including Allie Hopper (2), Hope Regalado and Jenna Webb.

The Lady Kats will host Castleberry on Friday, April 13, game time 6 p.m.
