Lady Kats Basketball finishes first round in 1st place

The Lady Kats (11-9, 5-0) beat district foes Lake Worth and Mineral Wells last week to complete the first half of District 6-3A undefeated and in sole possession of 1st place.

On Tuesday night the Kats defeated Lake Worth 51-24. It was a game that was not as lopsided as earlier district games have been, {{more}}but it was never in doubt. The halftime score was 24 -10 and Lake Worth was not able to mount a serious charge during the game.

Leading the Lady Kats in double figures were McKinley Bostad (16), Brenee Ellis (11) and Sadie Mahnesmith (10). Other Kennedale players scoring were Anna Llamas and Jasmyn Poe each with 5 points, Kathryn Mosley with 3 and Dajia Simmons (2).

Friday night, Kennedale faced what was supposed to be a serious challenge to their district leadership when Mineral Wells came to town. Coach MindyYoungs had the Lady Kats primed and ready.

The Ladys came to play, quickly establishing their ownership of the court with a 30-8 first quarter. Mineral Wells who dropped to 3-2 in district play tried to make a game of it in the 2nd quarter, playing the Lady Kats almost even. That would be their only real shot of the game.

?I don?t think the girls were prepared for the pressure they faced like I told them there would be,?Lady Rams head coach Leslie Holman said. ?Now they have seen it we know what we have to do the next time to get ready for them.

?They trap and pressure you all over the court. I didn?t show the girls Kennedale on video on purpose because I didn?t want them to get nervous, but I think that backfired on me and maybe I should have shown them.

Four Kats would end the game in double figures ? Bostad (22), Mahnesmith (20), Poe (16) and Llamas (12). Finishing out the scoring for Kennedale was Ellis (7), Mosely (7), and Simmons (5).

Kennedale plays again at home this Tuesday night, playing the team that is currently in 2nd place, Springtown. Varsity plays at 6:30 p.m.
