It may not have been their goal for the first week, but it was a strong start for the Lady Kat volleyball program. Kennedale won 5 of 7 games in their first tournament, playing in the Duncanville Tournament of Champions. {{more: continue ?}}

4A Kennedale entered the tournament 1-0, having beaten 5A Arlington Heights at the first of the week. The Lady Kats kept their winning going with three wins in pool play on Friday. Saturday yielded mixed results for the Kats but they were in the championship bracket playing the top teams.

  • Kennedale started play on Saturday losing against 6A San Angelo Central 25-12 in the first set 25-22 but fought back in losing 25-22 in the second set. Angelo Central finished last year at 31-7. ?
  • In the second match of the day, Kennedale defeated 5A Cleburne 25-16 and 25-13. ?
  • In the third match, Kennedale met up with the tournament host, 6A Duncanville, winning the first set 25-18 before losing the next set 25-18. In the final set, the Lady Kats fought Duncanville to the end before losing 25-23. ?
  • In the final game of the tournament, the Kats defeated 5A R.L. Turner, winning 25-11 and 25-11.
MVP for one Kat …

Besides going 5-2 in the tournament, playing bigger schools, one Kennedale player, Bryley Steinhibler (JR), was singled out for her play, earning tournament MVP honors for Outstanding Hitter.
Kennedale will play again on Tuesday playing @ South Grand Prairie with the varsity playing at 6 p.m.
