Returning to their winning ways and assuring themselves at least a tie for first place in District 7-4A, Kennedale won their final district game Tuesday night with a 11-1 victory over Venus.Kennedale completes the regular season with a 16-2 overall record and a 7-1 district record. Godley is 10-6, 5-1 with games left with Diamond Hill (0-7, 0-5) and a make-up game with Alvarado (4-8, 1-5).
It was a sweep of Venus with win Tuesday night combined with an earlier 16-0 win. The LadyKats scored 8 runs in the first three innings and with the Kats swinging for 12 hits and 11 runs.
Alexa Neifert had an impressive outing against Venus’ lineup. Venus managed just two hits off of Niefert, who allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out three during her five innings of work. Niefert threw 49 strikes in a total 79 pitches with 9 ground/fly outs.
In the first, Kennedale scored 3 runs off of a single by Allie Turner who scored with a steal, a pass ball and a tag-up. This was followed by a single by Mary Grace Howard, a groundball error that earned Jazlyn Crowder a base and a two run double by Elizabeth Schiele.
The second inning saw a repeat 3 runs with singles by Jamie Franks and Howard, a double by Crowder and a base on a groundball error by Neifert.
Two runs were added in the 3rd by Kennedale with 2 outs off a single by Franks and a two-run homer by Turner.
Kennedale?s final three runs came in the 4th on the strength of doubles off the bats of Howard and Crowder and a Schiele walk. Crowder scored after a steal of 3rdd and then home. Schiele scored after a steal of 2nd and 3rd and then home on an error. Rebekah Abair also hit a single in the inning.
