Lady Kats lay early claim to district title

Tuesday night in Godley, the #13 Kennedale Lady Kats (21-13, 2-0) put in an early bid for the District 7-4A with a big win over last year?s co-champion, the Godley Lady Wildcats. Kennedale won the match 3-1. {{more}}
 
Last week in a district kickoff game, Kennedale had welcomed Midlothian Heritage (19-7, 1-1) to the district with a resounding 3-0 victory winning 25-13, 25-8 and 25-13 and moved to 1-0 in district play. This set up the early season showdown Tuesday evening with Godley.
 
Godley finished last year at 23-7, 7-1 before losing in the state playoffs to Stephenville in four sets. Godley?s only district loss last year was to the Kennedale Lady Kats.
 
Tuesday night playing on Godley’s homecourt, the Lady Kats made a huge statement about this year district race. In the first set, the two teams stayed even until in the middle of the set when Kennedale went had a 16-5 run, upping the score to 21-11. Godley followed with a 7-2 run but it was too little and too late. Set 1 went to Kennedale 25-18.
 
In the next set, Godley held the lead most of the game. With the game at 5-4 Kennedale, Godley rolled off a 7-2 spree to take the lead for good in the middle of set at 12-7. The Kats cut the lead to two but Godley had a 7-3 run to end the set. Set 2 Godley 25-19.

Set 3 was a battle of two very good teams fighting all the way. After the Godley Lady Wildcats took the first point, Kennedale came back to take the lead which they held by one or two points until Godley went on a 6-0 run and took the lead at 19-17. The lead then changed when the Kats scored three unanswered points at 21-20. The lead changed 6 times as the teams were either tied or on point up. Kennedale reached game point at 24-22 but Godley tied and then went up 25-24. Kennedale staying poised, reeled off three straight points to take the win. Set 3 Kennedale 27-25.
 
Set 4 was all Kennedale as Godley had no answer to the Kats game. After a 3-3 tie, Kennedale?s 7-1 run put the Kats ahead for keeps 10-4. Kennedale kept stretching the lead the rest of the game (12-7, 16-9, 20-11) and finally winning by 12. Set 4 and Match Kennedale 25-13.
