LadyKats opens season with high expectations

Today the Kennedale Lady Kats, defending state champions in Class 4A, began their season with the annual Kennedale LadyKat Soccer Regional Cup, featuring a number of ranked 4A teams plus three 5A teams. {{more}}
 
The goal for this year for Head Coach Michael Strange and the Lady Kats is, of course, a returned trip April 13-16 to the UIL state tournament in Georgetown.

Morning News/Sports Day identified Kennedale as one of the teams to watch saying, ?The defending 4A state champion has five players who have committed to play college soccer. That includes first-team all-state senior midfielder Allie Thornton, an SMU pledge who had a team-leading 38 goals, along with 15 assists. Second-team all-state senior midfielder Abby Olmos and junior forward Alondra Olmos combined for 47 goals and 39 assists for a 24-2-1 team. started the season and tournament play with win…
 
This morning, Kennedale kicked off the tournament playing in a return match of last year?s state championship game against Princeton. In the game last year, Kennedale prevailed 4-1, today the Kats won 3-0 on two scores by Allie Thornton within a minute of each other and one by Cara Hunt who scored with seconds left in the game to cap off the win.
 
Teams in this weekend tournament include five ranked teams including #1 Kennedale, #4 Stephenville and #7 Brownwood all from Region 1-4A; #4 Mabank and #7 Kaufman both from Region 2-4A; 5A teams Bryan Rudder, Frisco Reedy and North Forney; and, 4A teams Princeton, Decatur, Paris and Lake Worth. Finals will be played on Saturday with the championship game scheduled for 7 p.m. All tournament games are being played at Kennedale Wildcat Stadium this weekend.
 
Kennedale, who lost only three seniors off of last year?s team, will play Friday against #4 Stephenville at 3:30 p.m. in tournament action. The opponent and game time for Saturday is still to be determined.
 
tough schedule but expected…
 
Next Tuesday, Kennedale will travel to Mansfield to challenge 6A Mansfield High School at 6 p.m. Then on Thursday, the LadyKats will test #1 Boerne, out of Region 4-4A, in another away contest.
