Mayor announces new Water Rate Review Committee

Kennedale Mayor Brian Johnson, who was out of town last week during the regular monthly meeting of the City Council when a group of citizens spoke in opposition to the recent rate increase, has announced the formation of a committee to review the impact of the rate increases. {{more:[Read more]}}
 
In a his annoucement, posted online at the city website, he said the following.
 
?We feel that there is enough data available, and the time to revisit is now, which is why I am pleased to announce that I have appointed a citizen committee (as with the previous water rate restructuring) to review the rates as well as consider feedback we?ve received from residents. The committee will re-examine the rate structure and address concerns, while ensuring that the city?s needs for maintaining a safe and reliable water and wastewater system are met.?

Committee members include Ernest Harvey (Chair), Cathy Brown, Adrienne Kay, Gary Swan, Chris Pugh and Pastor Greg Adams.
 
?These individuals were chosen because they?ve demonstrated a strong dedication to help the city solve issues critical to the community, and the entire Council is grateful for their willingness to serve on this vital committee,? said Johnson.
 
When the Kennedale News reviewed the minutes of recent city council meetings, it showed that each member of the committee has addressed the Council during the citizen’s forum. The committee is evenly divided between those who have spoken for and those against the new rates.

Johnson has asked Ernest Harvey, the committee chair, to present the committee?s recommendations to the Council at the Monday, September 19th meeting.
 
This is the regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council. The meeting is at 7 p.m. and is open to the public.

There was no mention of the citizens’ petition that called for a rollback of the new rates and that was presented to the city earlier this month.
