If you look forward to long drives to Friday night football games ? not this year. Kennedale stays local the next two years even in non-district games, no trips to east Texas or south to Nacogdoches. {{more: continue …}}

For football, Kennedale is now in District 6-4A and is joined by Castleberry and Lake Worth along with four Fort Worth ISD schools, Dunbar, Benbrook, Diamond Hill-Jarvis and Western Hills. Note: Dunbar and Western Hills dropped down this year from 5A to 4A.?

but, hold everything ?
?

There is a small fly in the ointment. Fort Worth ISD on behalf of the FWISD Young Men?s Leadership Academy or YMLA has indicated that they plan to? appeal the YMLA placement in Class 6A. FWISD plans to request that the school be moved down to 4A, specifically with the four other Fort Worth district schools in District 6-4A (football) and District 9-4A (basketball/volleyball).

?
YMLA (approximately enrollment of 200 students) is a magnet type school with an open enrollment that by UIL rules must compete in the highest classification of other schools in that district. The rule is in place because technically the school can draw students from all across the district. Fort Worth has several schools at the 6A level this year. 6A enrollment numbers for high school is 2,190 and above. 4A enrollment numbers are 505 to 1,149.
?
Kennedale was not opposed to the request by the two-year old school, but others in the new district were.? So, without an unanimous agreement, an appeal would be required.
?
If approved, the new district would go to an 8 team football district, forcing Kennedale to drop one of the pre-district games. In addition, Fort Worth teams play at home either Thursday, Friday or Saturday each week depending on field availability. So away games for Kennedale with Fort Worth can?t be set either until the appeal process runs its course.
