Nostaglia driver dies on eve of big racing event at local track

A popular and longtime racer was fatally injured in an incident during a preliminary event at Texas Racewaytime last weekend. {{more:Read more …}}
 
The Southwest Heritage Racing Association posted on its Facebook page August 27, the following statement.
 
“The SHRA is very regretful to report that in a test and tune incident last night [Friday, August 26] at Texas Raceway, Ron Muncy passed away.
 
Ron was a lifelong and very accomplished drag racer and regular of the SHRA since the inaugural season. He came into this weekend?s race in third place in the NE2 class.
 
Ron was a great friend to many in drag racing, but especially Steve Dunkin and Robert Turner, who pitted together and helped each other at the races. The SHRA family is extremely sad over the loss of Ron and we wish to extend our most sincere condolences to all his many friends and family.”
 
The Texas

Raceway in Kennedale was hosting the SHRA Longhorn Nostalgia Drags, a popular event on the circuit.

 
Memorial service for Mr Muncy, 77, is today at 3:30 p.m. in Greenwood Chapel in Fort Worth.
