KAUFMAN COUNTY, Texas ? A parole violator, wanted on several Kaufman County warrants, was arrested after a three-hour, multi-agency manhunt following a police pursuit of a stolen vehicle Tuesday night. {{more}}

The pursuit began around 11:45 p.m., on Tuesday, July 7, 2015, on County Road (CR) 328 in northern Kaufman County. A Kaufman County Sheriff?s Office deputy initiated the pursuit with the vehicle which fled towards Poetry.

Hunt County Sheriff Randy Meeks told inForney.com a deputy had received information about the man, identified as 26-year-old Joseph Phillip Rodriguez of Kennedale, Texas, who was reportedly in a stolen vehicle. The Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office was called to assist in locating Rodriguez.

As the pursuit entered Hunt County on CR 2316, a Hunt County Sheriff’s deputy deployed a spike strip and flattened two of the vehicles tires. Rodriguez later wrecked the vehicle on CR 2316 near CR 2300 in southern Hunt County.

Rodriguez fled into a heavily wooded area within a tall game fence where tracking dogs from the Colemoore Texas Department of Corrections “treed” Rodriguez. A DPS helicopter arrived at approximately 2:30 a.m. and to assist in the search and was able to spotlight Rodriguez in the tree.

Police from the Kaufman County Sheriff?s Office, Hunt County Sheriff?s Office, the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS), and the Quinlan Police Department searched for the man for nearly three hours ? announcing his capture just before 3 a.m.

Meeks says the vehicle Rodriguez was driving was reported stolen out of Shreveport, Louisiana, and several ounces of suspected methamphetamine were seized from inside the vehicle.

A law enforcement source told inForney.com Rodriguez is suspected of fleeing from deputies on at least two other occasions in Kaufman County and Hunt County in the past couple of weeks.

Rodriguez was arrested and taken to the Hunt County Detention Center where he is being charged with possession of a controlled substance penalty group 1 over four grams and less than 200 grams, evading arrest with a vehicle, unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and is also being held on five warrants out of Kaufman County, according to Meeks.

“I want to thank the Kaufman County Sheriff?s Office, Quinlan Police Department, DPS and CTDC for their assistance in apprehending this wanted individual,” stated Meeks.
