Pastor Nelda’s Notes: “God’s opinion mattered …”

The story of David and Goliath (1 Samuel 17) is a factual account from biblical history that demonstrates how the Lord intercedes for His people. {{more: continue …}}You know the story, David was a shepherd, youngest of Jesse’s eight sons, who killed the Philistine 9-foot giant with a slingshot and a stone.
?
The men of Saul’s army were afraid of Goliath, but, David was filled with faith and a passion for God. When the Philistines saw that their champion was dead, they fled before the Israelite’s, who had a great victory over them.
?
David’s faith in God caused him to look at the giant from a different perspective. Goliath was merely a mortal man defying an all-powerful God. David looked at the battle from God’s point of view. If we look at giant problems and impossible situations from God’s perspective, we realize that God will fight for us and with us. When we put things in proper perspective, we see more clearly, and we can fight more effectively.
?
David chose not to wear the King’s armor because it felt cumbersome and unfamiliar. David was comfortable with his simple sling, a weapon he was skilled at using. God will use the unique skills he’s already placed in your hands, so don’t worry about “wearing the King’s armor.” Just be yourself and use the familiar gifts and talents God has given you. He will work miracles through you. Only God’s opinion mattered to David.
?
Perhaps you are facing a giant today. Perhaps you are in financial difficulties or you are having health issues. Perhaps your marriage is in trouble or your children are prodigals. What person alive doesn?t have problems but some are so huge that it?s like facing a Goliath and all you have is a pea shooter.
?
God is never impressed by the size of a problem because the Creator of the universe doesn?t see difficulties the way we do. He sees them as a way to display His glory and that is usually done through individuals that the world often looks down upon.
?
God is in the small things so that He can do big things through us so that He is glorified. God?s power is magnified in our weakness (2 Cor 12:7-9). God resists the proud and mighty but He gives grace only to those who are humble (James 4:6). Humble yourself and He will help you in your time of trouble and slay the giant in your life, if only you will trust Him and do it for His glory.
