SFA Freshman Charles in the NCAA Playoffs

Charles is a freshman guard out of Kennedale where he was a three year letterman for the Kennedale High School Wildcats. In his last two years at Kennedale, the Wildcats were 71-4, going 38-1 his senior year with a Final Four finish. He was on the 3A State All-Tournament Team, the Star Telegram Super Team and was District 6-3A “MVP”.

 
This will be the Lumberjacks second straight appearance in the NCAA tournament. The 12th seeded SFA team will be playing 5th seeded Utah on Thursday in Portland, Oregon. SFA is 29-4 and winner of its last 28 of 29 games. Last year they upset VCU in first round action.

#4 Charles, listed at 6?5/190 lbs, is having a dream season for a freshman. He has played in all 33 games for the Lumberjacks and has worked his way into being a starter. In conference play (18 games) he has scored 184 points for a 10.2 average. Charles is shooting .333 from the 3 point range and .836 from the free point line. He has recorded 38 assist and 22 steals.

 
The SFA Lumberjacks have set numerous program records and have gone 61-7 while winning the Southland Conference in back-to-back years under Coach Brad Underwood. This will be the third appearance for Stephen F. Austin in the NCAA playoffs, posting a 1-2 record with losses to Syracuse (2009) and UCLA (2014).
