Will consider a $1200 raise for teachers next month

The Kennedale Board of Trustees, Thursday night, in a short meeting managed to find something for just about everyone.
 
Minus two board members, the Trustees quickly dispatched an agenda that left Board members feeling good and one that should make most of the school community pleased. {{more}}
 
Using budgeted fund, the Board approved the purchase of the following:
  • Sixty-six (66) ?smartboards? for each the elementary classroom at James F Delaney and R.F. Patterson. These boards similar to what newsrooms use, will allow the teachers to connect to wifi and to add and change features on the board with a simple touch of the board.
  • Four-hundred and eighty (480) ?ChromeBooks? for use at Kennedale Junior High and James A Arthur Intermediate. These will be part of mobile computer labs that will be able to move between classrooms (one for each two classrooms). Last year all classroom had wireless connections installed. The Chromebooks will be purchase from oil and gas revenue.
  • Three-hundred (300) laptops will be purchased for use by students in the Career and Technology program at Kennedale High School. This is on a one to one basis for juniors and senior level students enrolled in the CTE program.
  • The last technology purchase was for the lease of 235 new upgraded laptops to replace existing teacher/administrator laptops.

All the items should be ready for the fall start of school.

 
Superintendent Gary Dugger advised the Board that a raise for the 2014-15 school year of $1200 for teachers and a 2% for the rest of the staff will be recommended at the next regular board meeting in June.
 
Early in the evening the school board during public comments the following individuals addressed the Board:
  • Lisa Richardson, KHS PTA After Prom Chairperson, thanked the Board for time and donation to the 2014 After Prom program which she termed ?a huge success.?
  • Kyle Richardson, a KHS senior, also thanked the Board on behalf the Senior Class for the Board?s support.
  • Brian Johnson, Kennedale City Mayor, stopped by to introduce himself and wanted the Board know that the City was open to ?working together on issues of common interest.?
  • KHS student Ronald Hayes Jr.,spoke on behalf of his mother, KHS PTA President Sharon Hayes, who wanted to thank the Board for their help this year with the scholarship program. The program supplied 46 seniors with $500 scholarships.
