“Show me your friends and I will show you your future” James tells 8th graders

Kennedale Junior High held its 8th annual Career Day last month, inviting twenty three business professionals to be quests.

The Junior PTA hosted a breakfast for the guests before they began their presentations. Students were allowed to choose five careers to hear about during the day. {{more}}

Career choices included areas in fashion design, veterinarian medicine, medicine, photography, engineering, computer programming, law, journalism, and the food industry to name a few along with learning about owning your own business. The speakers enforced the importance of education and the roll school plays in every career they choose.

The day ended with former NFL player Cedric James speaking to the 8th grade students. James, a 1997 graduate of Kennedale High School, played with TCU and was a 4th round draftee for the Minnesota Vikings. He also made the roster for the Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots.

James has since continued his studies at TCU and become a well-known motivational speaker. He helped start the TCU

IdeaFactory, a unit of the College of Science & Engineering dedicated to supporting the entrepreneurial spirit of TCU students, staff and faculty.

He told the junior high student it was not to early to be thinking about who and what they going to be doing. He reminded the students of one his favorite quotes, ?show me your friends and I?ll show you your future?.
