Snyder takes first Game 4-1, Series moves back to Kennedale

In the battle of pitchers, it was run support that won the game for Snyder 4-1 on Friday afternoon in Snyder in Game 1 of the best of three Class 4A Region I final series. {{more}}
 
The series comes back to Kennedale with Game 2 starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. The LadyKats now have home field advantage but it is a win and win situation. On the line is that ?holy grail? of high school softball, the final four in Austin next week.
 
Taylor Hinojos (Sr) for the Snyder (29-6) pitched a three-hitter, struck out seven, walked one and was 1 for 3 with an RBI. She threw 95 times with 63 strikes and got 13 ground/fly outs in support. Expect to see her on the mound again today.
 
Allie Turner (Sr) for the LadyKats pitched a complete game for Kennedale (22-3), allowing three hits and five walks and striking out 11. She pitched 117 times with 78 strikes and had 8 ground/fly outs.
 
For both teams the final score was unusual. Both are big hitting teams, use to scoring lots of runs.
 
For the Kats, it was Jazlyn Crowder’s homerun in the top of the fourth that accounted for Kennedale?s only run.
 
Both teams are trying to return to Austin again. For Kennedale, who has 2 state titles, the last trip to Austin was in 2003 when they lost in the finals. For Snyder, it was just last year. This will be Kennedale’s third region final game in the last four years.
 
The LadyKats had chances in the game after leaving 5 runners on base. The best opportunity came in the top of the sixth with 1 out and 2 on base after Alexa Neifert and Mary Grace Howard both singled. A fielder?s choice ground ball by Crowder eliminated Neifert but Crowder was safe at 1st and Howard was at 2nd. A popup out killed the rally though.
 
Kennedale fans have been urged by the LadyKat softball team to “Be loud, be green and be there!” Game time is 2 p.m. with Game 3 starting 30 minutes after the completion of Game 2.
 
Both games will be played at LadyKat Field at Kennedale High School.
