The Wildcats are averaging 48 points per game after victories over Class 5A teams Crowley (56-21) and Fort Worth Dunbar (76-7). Crowley and Dunbar won their districts in 2013.

Kennedale won its district last year, too, going undefeated in 6-3A before losing in the second round of the playoffs. Kennedale (4-0) will host Dallas Carter this week, then get a week off before starting a five-game District 5-4A Div. 1 slate Oct. 10.

Springtown, Lake Worth, Fort Worth Castleberry and Fort Worth Diamond Hill-Jarvis appear again on the schedule with Alvarado substituting for Mineral Wells.

Coach Richard Barrett said the uniqueness of Class 4A scheduling ? where the season for most teams is half over before district play begins ? divides the year into distinct periods. And to Barrett, that?s a good thing.

?What we try to do is break our season down to three different seasons: Nondistrict, district and playoffs,? Barrett said. ?We?ll focus on Dallas Carter this week, then we?ll start gearing up for district play. We?ve got some time to kind of re-assess and re-evaluate.?

The catalyst behind Kennedale?s offense this year has been running back Juwan Washington. The senior has totaled 902 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns in four games, coming off of a 270-yard performance against Kaufman.

?He?s a workhorse,? Barrett said. ?In fact, he wants the ball more. He?s just such a good player ? A kid that loves to play the game. And he?s coachable. There?s teams that know he?s going to get the ball and that?s OK.?
