Student produced play ?Reviving Ophelia? opens this week at KHS

KHS Theater Director Heather Alverson has announced the presentation of the play ?Reviving Ophelia this week, a play that was produced and performed by students in the KHS Theater Department.
 
Opening night is Friday night November 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the Kennedale High School Auditorium. {{more}}Additional performance are scheduled for Saturday, November 15 at 7:30 p.m. and again on Sunday, November 16 at 2:00 p.m.
 
The play is directed by seniors Hailey Green and Alex Garcia. The entire production is student led from the directing and acting to the technical designs.
 
Alverson said that the students are learning field experience from requesting approval for a play, rehearsals, and putting on performances.
 
?All of this process has been a learning experience for each student to learn what it takes to produce a play and collaborate with various production personnel,? said Alverson adding, ?I am very proud of these students and think that this production is not only a valuable learning experience, but reveals the talent of the students?.
 
This production will be taken to Texas Thespian Festival on November 19th to perform in front of other Texas high schools.
 
The play itself is based on the novel Reviving Ophelia: Saving the Selves of Adolescent Girls by Dr. Mary Pipher and adapted by Cherie Bennett. It is the story of four teenage girls facing the negative influences of popular culture with each searching for the personal ?North Star? that will guide her home.
 
Jill is a Native American girl adopted by white parents. Allie, a pastor’s daughter, faces a crisis of faith. Lia loses her mother to cancer and faces a scary boyfriend. And Dawn realized she is unprepared for life after high school and beyond boys.
 
The play is a drama with touches of humor that follows the lives of the girls from first grade through high school and then into young adulthood.

by Hailey Green and Alex Garcia.

Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students/seniors.
