Team of KHS anglers finish 6th at state tournament

Last week was the Texas High School Bass Association state tournament at Lake Sam Rayburn. Kennedale High School had two teams qualify for the tournament after competing in regional tournaments throughout the year. {{more: continue …}}

Overall, there were 1,305 high school teams from across the state that were part of the THSBA program, divided into 6 regions. Of those 1,305 teams, just 220 qualified for the state tournament. Kennedale?s teams of Riley Bush/Justin Harper and Ethan Miller/Simon Horn both qualified for state.

Bush/Harper finished 6th in the state tournament with a combined catch weighting 33.94 with 10 fish. Miller/Horn came in 146th with a combined catch of 19.42 lbs with 9 fish. The average catch weight was 21.34 and the winning combined weight was 40.28 lbs (10 fish).

KHS faculty sponsor Danny Wilcox did some quick figuring and said that the total Kennedale winnings over the past couple of years for teams Riley Bush/Justin Harper and Ethan Miller/Simon Horn was $9,300 in college scholarships and $1,750 in other prizes for a grand total of $11,050.

Individual team and school rankings for the year ??
  • Kennedale finished ranked #21 in the West Division of the THSBA with Team Bush/Harper coming in 7th place while Miller/Horn were 73rd.?
  • At the regional tournament, the two teams switched places with Team Miller/Horn coming in 11th while Bush/Harper were 88th.?
  • It was at the state tournament that Bush/Harper finished in 6th place and $7000 in scholarship money and Miller/Horn finished at #146.
