Three City Council seats up for Election in May

The Kennedale City Council has three council seats up for election this year. So far only Place 5 has attracted the only challenger according to Leslie Galloway, City Secretary and Communications Coordinator. {{more}}
 
The filing deadline for these positions is February 27.
 
Place 1 is currently held by Charles Overstreet. As of Thursday, January 5th 3rd no one including Overstreet had filed but Overstreet is expected to run again.
 
Place 3 is currently held by Mike Walker. As of Thursday, January 5th only Walker had filed.
 
Place 5 is currently held by Frank Fernandez. As of Tuesday, January 3rd Fernandez and Hollis Matthews have filed.
 
The Council consists of a mayor and five Council members who are elected at-large by majority vote of the qualified voters of the city. Each member serves a two-year term, and there are no term limits.
 
Council Places 1, 3, and 5 are elected in odd numbered years. The Mayor and Council Places 2 and 4 are elected in even numbered years.
 
To be eligible to run for office you must meet the following requirements.
  • Be a registered voter of the City; and
  • Have resided in the City for one (1) year before the date of the election; and
  • Continue residency in the City during the term of office; and
  • Not hold more than one public elective office; and
  • Not hold an appointed office of the City excluding boards, committees, and commissions; and
  • Be at least 21 years of age; and
  • Not have been determined mentally incompetent by a final judgment of a court; and
  • Not have been finally convicted of a felony from which the person has not been pardoned or otherwise released from the resulting disabilities; and
  • No candidate my file for more than one office or position number per election.
Filing papers can be picked up at City Hall during regular business hours.
