District of Innovation …

Kennedale has developed a plan that must be approved by the

Board and then presented to TEA for approval as part of the steps to become a District of Inovation. DOIs may be

exempted from a number of state statutes; have greater local control

as the decision makers over the educational and instructional model for

students; increased freedom and flexibility, with accountability, relative to

state mandates that govern educational programming; and empowerment to innovate

and think differently. Read more @ TEA

Districts of Innovation

Kennedale?s plan would allow:
  • the district to hire

    individuals with industrial experience to teach career and technical classes

    that may not have traditional teaching credentials but meet teacher

    certification requirements designed by the district;

  • allow the hiring of

    part-time professionals to teach specialty classes;

  • allow more flexibility in

    planning the school calendar with goal of balancing the first and second semesters

    in length and aligning with calendars

    for TCC, Advanced Placement Exams and other mandated test including STARR/EOC;

  • and

    allow more flexibility in assigning teacher mentors;

A-F Grading Accountability

The 84th Legislature passed HB 2804, changing the Texas school

accountability system so that every campus and district receives one of five

ratings from A-F. Much like students receive grades in individual subjects and

those are combined for a GPA, the law requires schools and districts to be

issued grades based on five different areas of performance or ?domains,? and

those five grades must be combined into a single overall rating. A-F

The roll-out of preliminary grades this year

has met with serious criticism from school districts and school boards across the state.
