We are a truly unique class Bunnell says in Valedictorian Speech

The following is the printed text of the speech given by Kennedale High School Valedictorian Blake Bunnell last week at graduation ceremonies for the Class of 2015.

“Memories: they?re defined as things or ideas remembered from the past. That?s what these past few years have been all about, Class of 2015. {{more}}And here we are, making our last memory as students of Kennedale High School. This moment is definitely bittersweet, but that?s what will make it last in our minds forever. Every triumph comes with the end of an era, an end of a chapter in life, and this is the closure to our years in high school. The memories we?ve made have allowed us to grow and mature into the young adults we are today. No one got through it alone. Most memories aren?t made by oneself, the best and most lasting ones are made with friends and family and the people who are important in our lives. That?s why our class has been great at making memories, we are so close and intertwined that we have allowed ourselves to enjoy high school together. We?ve made these four years really count, and we?ve got through them together.”

“Together: defined as united or in agreement towards the same cause. The Class of 2015 is more unified than any class I?ve ever seen before. We function as a single unit, working towards our goals together. We don?t try to defeat our classmates, whether it?s in the classroom or on the field; we?ve always encouraged each other, pushed each other to be better. What other class can say they won the Homecoming hallway contest both junior AND senior year?? What other class achieved as much as we have in athletics, academics, and the fine arts?? What other class has survived every new standard, test, or schedule change and embraced it as well as we have? The answer to all of these questions is the same- there is no answer.”

“We are a truly unique class, and we?ve been through everything together. From the beginnings of dress code to the EOC and STAAR exams to the new graduation plans, we?ve survived it all. In many ways, the Class of 2015 was the first class to go through changes in the school district. However, we were also the first class to accomplish many of the things we have. I?ll start out with athletics. We?ve led Kennedale to a state championship in girls soccer, powerlifting, and track and field. Our football team was undefeated in the regular season for the first time ever. We?ve made it further into playoffs or have done better than ever before in many other sports. Even if we didn?t win it all, I?ve heard numerous times this year that our opposition stated ‘Y?all were our state championship’.”

“The class of 2015 led every team to fight hard and to fight until the end. Not only did we fight hard, we also studied hard to be where we are today. Academically, we were a very intelligent group. Our UIL Academics team brought more people to regionals than ever before this year, and that?s a sign of a truly bright class. We also had the highest placing team at the state level that has ever represented Kennedale. Speaking of which, last, but definitely not least, I want to remind you of how great our band was this year. They placed higher at state than ever before, and our class led them to their first state finals. I could go on and on about what the Class of 2015 has accomplished, but it?s time to get back to my point. We?ve made all these memories of greatness and success as a class, and what we?ve left here at Kennedale is our legacy.”

“Legacy: it?s defined as what is handed down by predecessors to those who follow. We?ve left a great legacy here at Kennedale, but now it?s time to look ahead. In all that you dream and all that you do, remember what you?re going to leave behind. Continue what we?ve started in high school. Continue to leave a great and lasting legacy. Continue to make a difference, wherever you are. Continue your education or training to enable your success. Continue to stay true to yourself. We?ve left behind these great achievements and accomplishments as the class of 2015; now we have an opportunity to continue this legacy as the graduates of 2015. Many teachers have asserted that we?re one of the best classes to ever come through Kennedale. Let?s go out there and prove them right. And since this may be the last time we?re under the same roof together, I want to give everyone my best wishes for the future; I know we?ll all do great things.”

“Congratulations class of 2015; we made it, together!”
