A series on young entrepreneurs from Kennedale

Even though we often cover current student events, the achievements do not end after graduation. Former Wildcats continue the tradition of success in so many ways. Ashlee (Taylor) Rivers, a 2002 graduate is no exception. {{more: Read more …}}

She and her husband have created their own company, Pumpkin Doodle. Their first product is a silicone band called, Bottle Bands, which solve the problem of those sticky labels not staying on bottles, sippy cups, etc.

We were fortunate enough to ask Ashlee a few questions about her life now and business future.

KNews: Tell us about yourself.

Rivers: ?My name is Ashlee (Taylor) Rivers and I am a KHS Wildcat from the class of 2002. I really loved being a part of a school that felt like a large family. We all knew each other and most of us have been in school together since Kindergarten. My sophomore year I was fortunate enough to be a part of the 2000 Softball State Championship team, Go wildcats! After my high school days were over, I attended Texas A&M and met my awesome husband and since have had 2 wonderful children, Nolan and Audrey.?

KNews: Explain your product and your inspiration. When/how did you decide to jump into this venture?

Rivers: ?When you send your children to daycare, it is a requirement that you label everything you bring in for them, bottles, food, sippy cups, etc. Daily we were preparing 4 bottles, and 5 small containers of food, so every night we were writing on 9 labels that didn’t stick well to the bottles or containers. One night I looked at my husband and said, ‘if someone doesn’t create a label that stays on the bottle, I’m going to lose it.’ And he said, ‘We can!’ And that’s how this all came about! We created a silicone label to be used around baby bottles, sippy cups, small food containers and adult water bottles. The labels are writable, erasable, and reusable.?

KNews: What is your inspiration?

Rivers: My inspiration: I think when you have children you find yourself doing things you’d never imagine yourself doing. If it weren’t for my children, this idea would have never come about. I’m a working mom looking to make life easier! These bottle band labels have made our lives easier, and I hope I can share that with other busy families.

KNews: The future ? Anymore products in the works?

Rivers: ?Yes. We are thinking all the time about new products! I’d like to create a teether for babies that can double as a decoration in your nursery. My inspiration for this came from a small bird figurine in my daughters nursery. She loves to chew on it, but it’s glass so I have to take it away from her. So I’m thinking a silicone teether that you can also set on a dresser or nightstand table that looks like a decoration.

Reed, my husband, wants to create another silicone writable, reusable label, but this one would have a sticky back. Unlike paper sticky labels, the glue on the back of these would allow them to stay on containers for an extended period of time and be reusable. This would be perfect for food containers, really any container you’d like to label. ?

?We love being entrepreneurs and hope to grow our brand and product offerings!?
