Wildcat Band has strong showing at Mansfield Competition

It was an early competition event for the Wildcat Marching Band, but the Wildcats finished as a top ten finalist. Kennedale was the only 4A band to finish in the top ten while all others were 5A or 6A bands. {{more}}The competition was held on Saturday, September 26 at Newsome Stadium in Mansfield.
 
?This is our first time to attend this particular contest and it is the earliest competition date the Wildcat band has ever gone to,” said KHS Band Director Erol Oktay.
 
In the preliminaries, the Marching Wildcats placed 3rd in a class size that was based on the number of performers and not UIL classification. The KHS Drumline placed 1st in class and the Color Guard placed 2nd in class.
 
..beating out other 5A and 6A bands ….
 
Overall, there were 24 bands competing at the competition. Of the top 10 bands that qualified for finals, Kennedale was the only UIL Classification 4A band beating out other 5A and 6A bands as well as 4A bands in the competition.
 
?Our standard is not to just compete with the best bands in our UIL Classification, or those in our band size class,? said Oktay, ?but to compete in competition against the “best of the best” of all classifications.
 
..they will not settle for mediocrity …
 
He went on to say, ?I am very pleased and proud of how the kids have responded these past few weeks as I have pushed them hard to get us to where we are today. They have maintained a drive and focus throughout to be the best in Texas, and they will not settle for mediocrity.?
 
Kennedale has two more competitions before the UIL marching contest in Glen Rose on October 17 (day after homecoming). On October 3rd, the Wildcats will compete in the Midlothian Marching Contest and then on the Saturday, October 10th the band travels to Denton for a major competition.
