Wildcat Baseball Update: Cats go 2-2

The Kennedale Wildcats have moved to 8-4-1 after splitting four games over the last two weeks. Starting the second round of district play the Cats beat Diamond Hill and Godley but lost their first district contest to Venus bringing their district record to 6-1 but still in 1st place. The Cats also played a non-district game against #6 Waco Robinson and lost. As a result of their two losses, the Wildcats dropped out of the top twenty in the latest THSB poll. {{more}}
 
Wildcat Baseball Update
 
March 27, FTW Diamond Hill 17-0 (W)
 
The Kennedale Wildcats easily handled Diamond Hill when six hitters combined for 12 hits, nine RBIs and 12 runs scored.

Diamond Hill managed just one hit off of TJ Aguilar, who allowed no earned runs, walked three and struck out five during his five innings of work. In his 76 pitches he threw 51 strikes.
 
Kennedale scored early. An RBI single by Jake Michener, a passed ball, an error, a wild pitch, an RBI single by Davis Walsh, a two-run single by Steven Murchison, and a wild pitch during the first inning scored 8 runs. An error, an RBI single by Cody Bossaller, an RBI single by Aaron Williams, a walk by Aguilar, and a fielder’s choice in the second inning put up another 5 runs.
 
Getting doubles were Jake Michener, Shane O’Connor and Tyler Perez. Earning RBI?s were Walsh, Michener 3, Aguilar 2, Bossaller 2, Perez, Williams and Murchison.
 
March 28, Waco Robinson 12-2 (L)
 
Waco Robinson turned the tables on the Kennedale Wildcats Saturday after the Cats big win over Diamond Hill the night before. Kennedale managed only 4 hits and just 2 runs in 6 innings of play. Waco Robinson (14-2-1) is currently ranked #6 in 4A ball in the most recent Texas High School Baseball (THSB) poll.
 
The game started out close with each team scoring 2 runs in the first inning. For Kennedale the two runs came off a double by Steven Murchison, a walk by Austin Eggleston, a sacrifice by Jake Michener, a walk by Shane O?Connor and then a fielder choice on a grounder by Tyler Perez. Murchison and Eggleston scored and that is where it ended.

Robinson kept scoring with two runs in each of the next 5 innings. For Kennedale it was three up and three down in the second and third innings and after a start off walk in the fourth it was two ground outs and a fly out.
 
In the fifth the Cats tried to mount a rally with two outs when Eggleston hit a double and Michener walked. But it ended with a hard hit ground out by O?Connor to second base. Kennedale managed a single by Cody Bosaller in the 6th but nothing else.
 
Perez for Kennedale earned the loss, pitching 3.1 innings, allowing 7 runs on seven hits while recording 2 strike outs. Murchison pitched 2.2 innings, allowing 5 runs on 5 hits and getting one strike out.
 
March 31, Godley 8-6 (W)
 
In the earlier match-up which the Wildcats won 1-0, Godley managed three hits with one error and Kennedale had 4 hits and two errors. This time around the two teams spread around 15 hits with Kennedale Cats winning 8-6. Surprisingly the winning team (Kennedale) had 5 errors while the losing team had only one.
 
Austin Eggleston hung in there to get the win for the Kennedale Wildcats pitching all seven innings. He struck out six, walked four and surrendered seven hits and 6 runs. But he finished the game strong in the seventh when he secured the win after giving up two singles and a double and allowing two runs. With one out and facing a pumped up Godley team, Austin got the win on a ground out on a 1-1 count and a four pitch strike out.
 
Kennedale got the early lead 2-0 in the first with a walk by Eggleston, a single by Jake Michener, a steal of home by Davis Walsh (courtesy runner for Eggleston) and a walk by Alan Sather, Colton Jakibusan and Cody Bossaller.
 
In the top of the second, the Wildcats got two more runs on singles by Aaron Williams and Eggleson and a double by Michener. In the third, Kennedale added another run to go up 5-0 when Bossaller hit a triple and TJ Aguilar hit a sacrifice fly. Godley managed one run in the bottom of the inning. With the score 5-1 neither team scored until Godley punched over 3 runs in the bottom of the fifth to up the score 5-4.
 
Kennedale got one run in the 6th when Michener scored after hitting a double and took third and home on passed balls. The Wildcats of Kennedale secured the win with two more runs in the top of the 7th when Bossaller was hit by a pitch, Aguilar walked, singles by Williams and Murchison scoring Garland Washington (courtesy runner for Bossaller) and the final run by Aguilar off of a tag-up on a Eggleston pop-up.

April 2, Venus 8-1 (L)
 
Kennedale loss their first district game to Venus in an 8-1 beat down on 10 Bulldogs hits vs two by the Wildcats. This was polar opposite of the first meeting this year when the Cats beat the Dogs 13-1.
 
Venus pitcher (Storm) limited Kennedale to one run on two hits while striking out 6 and getting 15 groundouts/flyouts.
 
The Wildcats scored their only run of the game on an RBI triple by Jake Michener in the third inning.
 
Steven Murchison recorded the loss for Kennedale allowing 5 runs on 6 hits while striking out 5 over 5 innings of play. TJ Aguilar in 2 innings of play allowed 3 runs on 4 hits while striking out 2.
 
Kennedale plays Alvarado tonight (Tuesday) at Alvarado, game time at 7:30 p.m.
