Wildcat Baseball survives Springtown rally, escape with 3-2 victory

Springtown?HS was never able to get over the hump and get over its troubles against Kennedale?HS on Friday, as Springtown fell 3-2 at Kennedale after falling behind by two runs in the fourth inning.

Springtown jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the top of the second. It was a rough inning for Austin Eggleston as the first three batters reached base on a walk, a single and a hit batter. With no outs Springtown hit into a double play but Springtown scored one. ?Eggleston then struck out the next Springtown batter ending the threat. ?{{more}}

In the bottom of the third, the Wildcats charged back with 2 runs when Jake Michener hit a single and then scored when brother, Zac Michener, hit a triple. ?Zac then?scored on a pass ball.

In the fourth, Kennedale scored what prove to be the winning run after Eggleston reach first with a walk. Courtesy runner for Eggston, Taylor Smith, made second on a passed ball, stole third and then scored off a single by Colton Coltharp. That would be all the scoring Kennedale would do for the evening.?

Springtown scored one run in the sixth on an RBI single by Corbin Taylor. In the top of the 7th, Springtown ?mounted a serious threat to Kennedale’s lead. The first batter for Springtown reached base after being hit by Eggston. The second batter grounded out but then Springtown hit a single and suddenly they had the go head run at 1st and the tying run at 3rd with just one out. ?Coach Jet Teague called in Wildcat closer, Josh Taylor, who struck out the next batter. Springtown then tried to steal home and was put out by catcher?Austin Hunt. ?Game over.

Austin Eggleston got the win for the Kennedale Wildcats Varsity thanks to eight strikeouts. Eggleston allowed two earned runs, three hits and one walk over 6 1/3 innings.

Kennedale Wildcats closer Josh Taylor put away the final two outs to record the save.

For the game Colton Coltharp had two hits and one RBI, Jake Michener and Hayden Millis both recorded hits and Zac Michener had one RBI.?
