#8 Kennedale took undisputed 1st place in District 6-3A by beating 2nd place Mineral Wells 3-2 at Jet Teague Ballpark Friday night in Kennedale.

Both teams played well in fact the Mineral Wells Rams played it almost too well. The Rams held the Wildcats scoreless for 6 innings. {{more}}In a game that had assistant coach??Paul Trantham muttering and repeatedly saying “holy cow”, the Cats just couldn’t get the bats going.
The Wildcats relied on Brett Taylor to eat up innings en route to the win. Taylor pitched seven innings and allowed one earned run, five hits and three walks while striking out four. Fittingly, he scored the last run of the game.

But it was slow going otherwise. Jay Thomas hit a single in the 3rd. Zac Michener singled in the 4th. But that was it until the 7th, when things happened quickly.

Down 2-0 and 3 outs away from their second district loss, Hayden Millis reached 1st on an error after hitting a grounder to third. He was only the third player to reach base in the game.
Zac Michener steps up to the place and in dramatic fashion on a 3-2 count, hits a line drive double to right field. With runners at 2nd and 3rd, Brett Taylor on his second swing hits a line drive double to left field scoring Millis and Michener.
The score is now 2-2 with no outs and the winning run on 2nd. The next Wildcat batter Jay Thomas strikes out swinging but the fourth batter up, Josh Taylor, hits a game winning single as Brett Taylor scores on the play.
Next up is Princeton in a non-district game at 2 p.m. Saturday 20, 2013 at Teague Ballpark in Kennedale.
