Fast growing Midlothian added a new high school a couple of years ago and because of the projected enrollment it was placed in Class 4A. Upper class students were given an option to enroll and a number of juniors took the option to transfer to the smaller school.

Basketball was immediately successful. The boys program, in their first year, went 24-7, 9-1 and tied Kennedale for the district title. Kennedale won the one game playoff to determine the top seed in district. Midlothian Heritage lost in the second round to Abilene Wylie who went on to the final four in the state championship tournament before losing in the semifinal game.
 
This year Heritage, who plays a lot of seniors, is 29-5, 12-1 for the season. The Jaguars have won their second district championship. In the playoffs, Heritage won their first round bi-district playoff game against the Lake Worth Bullfrogs (14-9, 7-5) 71-39 and followed up with a win over the Graham Steers (18-9, 5-3) 60-55 in area play.

Kennedale and Heritage have had a number of common opponents this year. They both have wins against Burkburnett, Western Hills, Granbury, Stephenville and Alvarado.
 
Kennedale split games against Life Waxahacie while Heritage won both. Heritage beat Hillsboro while Kennedale lost. Both teams lost games against Argyle.
 
Midlothian Heritage owns a big win over Kennedale in early December during the Hillsboro tournament. Heritage won the game 71-43.

Heritage through 34 games averages 68 points per game (49% field goal average) with an average of 21.9 rebounds, 8.9 assist, 9.7 steals and 2.7 blocks per game. They love to hit the three with a 39% average on an average of 17.3 attempts per game.
 
Kennedale (25-10, 12-0) through 35 games has averaged 60.3 points per game (44% field goals average) with an average of 37.7 rebounds, 13.7 assist, 8.1 steals and 4.0 blocks per game. Kennedale on 3 point shooting averages 28.4% on 10.9 attempts per game.

Heritage is ranked #16 in the state in the Class 4A Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) in the last poll taken prior to the playoffs.
 
Kennedale after sweeping district, is coming off a 54-42 win over Glen Rose (13-20, 6-7) in the first round and a 90-85 win over Burkburnett (25-6, 6-2) in area. This will be the second ranked team that the Kennedale Wildcats have faced in the playoffs. Once again they will play the underdog role.
 
Heritage will find a different team than the one they beat in December. It was a young team learning to play together. It is still a young team compared to Heritage but one that has seasoned well.
 
Expect another good game.
