Wildcats open district play tonight in Springtown

The Kennedale Wildcats (1-4) open District 6-3A play Friday against the Springtown Porcupines (1-4) in Springtown.

While both team sport the same losing record that will be no indication of their district record come November. Last year the Wildcats finished as district champions with a 5-0 record and Springtown finished second in district play at 4-1. {{more}}

Springtown has been pegged as the district dark horse contender to challenge Kennedale as the district champion. Springtown offers a fairly balanced attack averaging 240 receiving yards per game and 201 yards rushing.

Sophomore quarterback, Landry Turner (son of Head Coach Brad Turner), has been turning some heads with his poise. And he is not a rookie. He took over as a freshman last year during mid-season and lost only one game. He has passed for 1179 yards and has 13 touchdowns this year.

Springtown returns eight players on offense and five on defense. Players pegged to watch are Kolyn Waldrop (Sr., DL) who has 17 solo tackles, Ryan Hester (Sr., WR) averaging 14 yards a catch, Josh White (Sr., LB) with 36 solo tackles and Tyler Chappell (Sr, DL) with 23 total tackles.

The game will be played in Springtown and kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.

The Lady Kats? volleyball team will also be playing in Springtown at 5 p.m. in game that will go a long way in determining the eventual district champion. Both volleyball teams are 4-0 in district play.
