Burkburnett vs Kennedale …

The Glen Rose game was one that the Cats should have won and did. Now, they are the underdog facing a good top twenty team in Burkburnett. While the teams have not played each other this season, they have played three common opponents. Kennedale and Burkburnett each lost to Decatur and Midlothian Heritage. Burkburnett defeated Central Heights while Kennedale lost to Central Heights.

For the Bulldogs, this is a senior led team. Leading the way are guards Case Caldwell (Sr), Darion Chafin (Sr) and Jermaine Williams (Sr) plus Shonne Carter (Sr) who is a big part of their defense. The Dogs average 84 points per game.

But the Dogs are not overlooking the Cats. Their long time coach, Danny Nix had this to say about the Wildcats.

?They?re really tough and fast; really good defensively, normal Kennedale stuff,? Nix told the Times

Record News. ?As usual they are well-coached (by Doug Groff) and very athletic.?

Kennedale/Burkburnett history …

The Wildcats and the Bulldogs have met up several times over the years in the playoffs. Burkburnett lost to Kennedale in 2013-14 and in 2012-13 in the region quarterfinals. The two teams didn?t meet up in the playoffs in 2011-12 but Burkburnett beat Kennedale once in the regular season and then beat Kennedale in 2010-11 in the second round on their way to the state championship finals losing out to West Oslo 61-57. In 2007-08, the two teams met up in Austin in the state finals with Kennedale winning 61-59.

Contrasting styles …

The Bulldogs are a running team and very athletic. They count on overwhelming a team with their constant pressure and physical play. Kennedale is more discipline and works on their opponents weaknesses. It should be a good game, especially if, Kennedale is hanging in the game late.
