Top five in the state in 4A …?

Just over a week ago, the Kennedale Marching Wildcat Band became one of the top five marching bands in Class 4A in the State of Texas. This was the second time for this to happen for Wildcats. {{more: continue …}}

It was also their third straight time to finish in the top ten at the event held every other year in San Antonio at the Alamodome.??

23 bands earned a trip to San Antonio …?

At the event, twenty-three bands representing all areas of the state, competed during the day for a chance to be one of ten finalist to battle for the state title. The Kennedale Wildcats, after earning 6th place in the preliminaries, moved on to the evening finals.
?
Others DFW area 4A bands making the final cut were (listed in order of their preliminaries rankings) Argyle (2nd), Springtown (7th) and Melissa (8th). Just missing the final cut, but earning a state trip, was Castleberry (11th). Anna came in 19th place.

In the final performances that evening and with a brand new set of judges, the Wildcat band moved up a notched and finished in fifth place overall.

The top ten finalists in order of finish and with their preliminary rankings in parenthesis were #1 Canton HS (3), #2 Argyle (2), #3 North Lamar (1), #4 Canyon (5), #5 Kennedale (6), #6 Melissa (8), #7 Little Cypress-Mauriceville (9), #8 Hidalgo (10), #9 Springtown (7) and #10 Churchill Fulshear (4).

For Kennedale this is the 7th state contest in a row. It is another top 10 finish, now at three in row. It is their second top 5 finish with the Wildcats earning 5th place two out of their last three tries. And, the program continues to grow with the largest KHS state competition band ever at 160 strong.?
?
