7 KHS Students advance to State UIL Academic Competition

According to Jennifer Cook, KHS UIL Academic Coordinator, eighteen Kennedale High School students traveled to Texas Tech University this past weekend to compete in the Region 1/3A academic meet.
 
These students had already won district before qualifying for regional competition. (There are 4 regions in the Texas in Class 3A). {{more}}Last year Kennedale had 14 students who qualified for region.

In Lubbock, seven of the team members did well enough to advance to the highly competitive state 3A meet to be held at the University of Texas at Austin May 19-21. Last year KHS sent four students to Austin.
 
Qualifying for state competition:
  • Computer Science Team – 1st Place Team

Blake Bunnell (1st place individual), Tyler Ward (2nd place individual), Cody Kovar (4th place individual) and Danny To (7th individually and 1st in Hands On).

  • Ready Writing ? Grant Malone, 1st place
  • Editorial Writing ? Vanessa Stahl, 2nd place
  • Prose Interpretation ? Terrence Benard, 2nd place

According to Mrs. Cook the Computer Science team had the 2nd highest score in the state in the regional competition.

This was the second year for Grant Malone, Vanessa Stahl, Danny To and Tyler Ward to complete at regional. Grant will be making his second appearance at state.
